Ultrashort laser pulses are used to generate laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS). To generate LIPSS on small, confined surfaces, the laser source must be focused to a small spot diameter. In contrast to the commonly used high numerical aperture objectives, we present a Bessel beam based approach to generate LIPSS covered lines. The setup convinces with a large depth of field. The applicability of this method is demonstrated by patterning the cladding surface of nickel-titanium wires.

The start-up LIDROTEC beat twelve competitors in the international Luminate competition and was named "Company of the Year 2022". This comes with a grant of $1 million to help the company gain a foothold in the US market. The Luminate program specifically supports companies in the photonics and optics sector. The start-up LIDROTEC is active in this sector with a technology for extremely precise cutting using lasers.
Together with the research group "Functional Morphology and Biomechanics" of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU) led by Prof. Dr. Stanislav Gorb, we have presented a potential fabrication tool for biomimetic replication of complex structures from nature. An image of the publication is featured on the cover of "Journal of Optical Microsystems".
